Just like Pep Guardiola’s side, Bayern are among the favourites to win the whole thing, and victory over City on enemy soil would send a real statement that they are the team to beat this season.

Thomas Tuchel has crushed City’s Champions League dreams before during his time at Chelsea, and here’s how he could set up to do so again.

GK: Yann Sommer – Sommer remains the starter as Manuel Neuer works to recover from his broken leg ahead of next season.

RB: Benjamin Pavard – Returns elsewhere may see Pavard switch over to right-back and take the place of City loanee Joao Cancelo, who is eligible to face his parent club.

CB: Dayot Upamecano – After serving a domestic suspension, Upamecano should walk straight back into the lineup.

CB: Matthijs de Ligt – De Ligt was of interest to City before his move to Munich. Here’s a chance to see if he made the right call.

LB: Alphonso Davies – Davies will hope to have the speed to punish City’s unorthodox shape.

DM: Joshua Kimmich – Expect a whole lot of fun in the midfield battle, with Kimmich tasked with some important defensive work.

DM: Leon Goretzka – Tuchel should restore Goretzka to the lineup here to try and match up to City.

RM: Serge Gnabry – Still looking for his best role for Bayern, Gnabry may get the chance to stand out on the right.

AM: Jamal Musiala – Now back fit once again, Musiala is the focal point of this Bayern side.

LM: Leroy Sane – City know all about Sane, whose best performances in a Bayern shirt have come on the left wing.

ST: Thomas Muller – With no Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting or Mathys Tel, Tuchel has a decision to make, and Muller may get the nod over the struggling Sadio Mane.
