Barcelona have given updates on the injury status of defensive duo Jules Kounde and Eric Garcia, after the pair were both forced off against Valencia.

Garcia managed just 42 minutes in a 1-0 win over Valencia on Saturday before limping off injured and being replaced by Marcos Alonso. Kounde then made matters worse when he was forced off himself after 74 minutes.

Seeing their current first choice defensive duo hobble away from a narrow victory injured was a concern for the club, but the latest update is a positive one.

Barcelona confirmed the extent of both Kounde and Garcia’s injuries via Twitter on Sunday, reporting that the former had suffered a biceps femoris muscle strain in his left thigh, while the latter had suffered a external obturator muscle strain in his left hip.

There was no detail on when the two are expected to return to action, but having only suffered strains, the injuries do not appear to be serious and shouldn’t rule the duo out for long.

Injuries to both Kounde and Garcia would’ve been of huge concern to head coach Xavi, who is already having to do without Andreas Christensen and Sergi Roberto, while Hector Bellerin has only just returned to fitness.

La Blaugrana are next in action on Tuesday in their final Champions League game of the season away to Viktoria Plzen. Alonso and Gerard Pique are likely to start in defence ahead of the injured pair, in a dead rubber contest.
