The Assembly Member for Akrobi Electoral area near Wenchi in the Bono Region, Honourable Osei Eric has installed street lights within parks and gardens through Akrobi new town .
The installation of the street lights aimed at ending darkness that has come to characterize the area for about two years.
Speaking to Media Practiassionors, Hon Osei Eric explained that the installation of street lights has become necessary to halt activities of criminals who may take advantage of the darkness to commit all kinds of crime.
Furthermore he said the exercise will also enhance visibility during the night hours.
Moreover it will also eased financial burden from the electorates who may not be able to offer okada fares as operators of the okada business have increased their charges from 3.0 – 4.0, and may decides to walk from Akrobi to Wenchi in the night he emphasized .
In addition the Assemblyman indicated that he spent about 15,000.00. for the exercise.
According to him, he funded the installation of the street lights from the profit he gained from his cashew business.
Again he complained that together with him and his Unit Committee Members reported the situation to the authorities at the Wenchi Municipal Assembly but the Assembly put death ear to their plea hence he took it upon himself to do what the Assembly could not do.
Some residents who are running businesses within the area commended Mr. Osei for giving them a sigh of relief .
They said lack of a lighting in the area was worrying them a lot.
They continued to say that it was also affecting their Security .
They Further pray for the Assemblyman and asked God to bless him and also grants him a long life.
Unit Committee Chairman for the area also commended the Assemblyman for enhancing visibility within the area to halt criminals activities.
He therefore called on other Assembly Members to emulates Mr. Osei to provides street lights within their electoral areas to help enhance visibility.
