The Assembly Member of Oda Nkwanta Electoral Area in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, Dennis Obeng Agyei, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is determined to empower the business community, and protect their welfare.
He emphasised government’s commitment to creating an equal playing field for everyone to harness their potential, and make a decent living.
The Assembly Member said this when he donated 1,000 raincoats worth GH₵14,000.00 to traders at Oda Central Market, to protect them in this June-July rainy season. It was also to serve as a step towards mitigating the effects of the devastating fire outbreak that occurred on September 15, 2021, affecting their businesses.
The raincoats were distributed to all the women who had been severely affected by the fire incident, which resulted in the loss of numerous stalls and merchandise. The tragic event had left the traders vulnerable and struggling to rebuild their businesses.
Mr Obeng Agyei explained that one Clement Attafuah, Assembly member of Towobotom electoral area, spoke to him about the need to do something for the market women. “As result, I took it upon myself to provide essential rain protection gear to the market women, considering the unpredictable weather patterns during the current rainy season,” Mr Obeng Agyei stated
He expressed his heartfelt sympathy for the affected traders, and reiterated his commitment to their well-being. He emphasized the importance of supporting the local economy and the livelihoods of the hardworking market women.
The Assembly member noted that the raincoats would not only protect the traders from inclement weather conditions but also serve as a symbol of hope and resilience amidst their ongoing recovery efforts.
He encouraged other well-meaning individuals and organizations to extend a helping hand to the affected market women, and contribute to the revival of the Oda Central Market. He urged unity and collaboration among community members, emphasizing the need to work together to create a conducive environment for business recovery and growth.
The beneficiaries of the raincoats were deeply appreciative of Mr Agyei’s gesture, acknowledging the significance of his support in safeguarding their businesses.
They expressed gratitude for his timely assistance, emphasizing how the raincoats would alleviate their concerns about the adverse effects of rain on their merchandise.
In addition to the raincoat donation, Mr Dennis Obeng Agyei has been actively involved in various initiatives aimed at supporting local businesses and fostering development in the Oda Nkwanta Electoral Area.
His dedication to the welfare of the community has earned him praise and admiration from constituents and beyond. As the rainy season continues, the raincoats provided by Mr Obeng Agyei will undoubtedly offer much-needed protection and relief to the central market women in Oda.
