When Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, current National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) told the Supreme Court that the party had no documents to back up its claims of election fraud, he was not lying. The NDC did not have the competence to compile its own data on the election, and has not done so to date.

This information is contained in a leaked tape of a meeting Mr. Aseidu Nketiah held with members of the party ahead of the internal elections that brought him to power as National Chairman of the NDC. The target of Mr. Aseidu Nketiah’s confession, was Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, former Chairman of the NDC. Mr. Aseidu Nketiah trounced Mr. Ampofo in that election.

Former NDC Chairman Ofosu Ampofo was the target of malicious attacks.

“So we are doing collation, and he (Samuel Ofosu Ampofo) brought a system that he said it is robust and strong and that we should use it to collate, but after collating five regions, the system collapsed, so that is the truth that is there,” Mr. Aseidu Nketiah told the gathering.

In that meeting, Mr. Aseidu Nketiah, who enjoys the monicker ‘General Mosquito’, said, “All those officers report to me as the overall boss, the party’s chief executive. So they all report to me about their work. So if anybody says that I am to blame for the failure of these officers to properly collate the results, I would understand.

“But the truth of it is that we have the people who engaged in that failure. So we are doing collation, and he (Samuel Ofosu Ampofo) brought a system that he said it is robust and strong and that we should use it to collate, but after collating five regions, the system collapsed, so that is the truth that is there.

“So when we decided to go to court, we decided that we would do manual collation, by sending people to go and collect the pink sheets, to do the collation, then the chairman went to sit on the committee to do the collation that he would do the collation.

“So they sat there and sat there and brought some university graduates to sit on it and they sat there and when the time came for me to go and stand in the witness box, and they were asked to produce the results for me to take to the witness box, the results they brought was nothing to write home about because if you stand in the witness box with that as evidence, you would be disgraced. So we couldn’t depend on those things in court.

“So they said that we should go to Lawyer Tsikata. So we carried all those documents to Lawyer Tsikata. These are things we should not be talking about publicly. We went and dropped them on him, and he, after studying them, called us the next day and said that ‘come and take back your documents’, and that ‘if this is what you intend to depend on in court, then go for your own lawyer, I cannot do that type of work’, that is why I said in court when I was asked that I had not brought any results.

“So what I am doing is this; if I become the chairman these type of unacceptable things would not happen. So our problem in this party is that some of our leaders are in a dark trade with some leaders in the NPP. So if you are not careful, I would have gone on retirement, I would have gone to my village to relax. If, after you win, I were to come back to ask you to give me a post, you would have done it, not so, so it would not have been necessary for me to round talking so much,” he said.
