The Chief of Adausena in the Akyem State in the Eastern Region, Nana Boni Abankro has been
indefinitely sanctioned by Chiefs and Elders of the Akyem Kotoku State.
Nana Boni Abankro recently shot to fame after making allegations of mining illegalities and
misappropriation of funds against His Gracious Majesty Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV, King of the
Akyem Kotoku State,
The sanction was announced on the 3rd of October 2024 at its emergency Traditional Council meeting in
the Akyem Kotoku State Capital of Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.
At the meeting, Adausenahene Boni Abankro’s misconduct of incitements, refusal to honor the King’s
invitation on more than ten occasions spanning over six months and preferring false allegations against
His Gracious Majesty Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV King of the Akyem Kotoku were evaluated.
The Chiefs of the Akyem Kotoku State took turns to criticize Adausenahene and unanimously agreed that
Aduasenahene Boni Abankro should be indefinitely sanctioned.
The events leading to the sanctions against Adausenehene are that on 15th September 2024,
Adausenahene accused the Overlord of the Akyem Kotoku State over his involvement in illegal mining
during a press conference.
Nana Boni Abankro further accused the Akyem Kotoku Overlord of having squandered monies allocated
to him for the construction of the collapsed Kotoku Palace in Akyem Oda.
Nana Boni Abankro V also speculated that his constant pressure on the Occupant of the Bohyengua
stool over his misappropriation of funds for the construction of the Kotoku Palace had incurred the wrath
of the Kotokuhene who has engaged assassins to kill him.
Adausenahene Nana Boni Abankro V granted interviews on several televisions and radio stations to whip
up public support for his defamation program.
However, Adausenahene’s short popularity was eroded when several prominent Chiefs shot down his
allegations against the Akyem Kotoku Overlord in a widely publicized press conference on the 19th
September 2024.
In a letter to the general public and other relevant Government institutions, the Akyem Kotoku Traditional
Council stated amongst others that Adausenahene should not be “ …recognized and treated as a chief
not only in the Akyem Traditional Area but beyond…”
The letter further stated: “We advise that no person or entity or organization should deal with him as a
chief or extend him any courtesies and privileges extended to a chief” citing chieftaincy Act 2008 act 759
40(4) to support its stance.
By the sanction, Adausenahene cannot present or parade himself as a chief.
Inhabitants of the densely forested village of Adausena one of the ten communities within the operational
areas of Newmont Akyem Mine are happy that at long last their once proud and disrespectful chief has
been indefinitely sanctioned.
