GHS commence nationwide measles immunization exercise

The Ghana Health Service has commenced a nationwide measles immunization exercise targeted at children between  nine months to 59 months .
Officer in charge of Extended Programme on Immunization (EPI) at the Wenchi Municipal Health Directorate, Mr. Thomas Sarfo said the immunization programme is set to commence on Wednesday, October 2 and end on as Sunday, October 6,2024.
In an interview with Radio West Africa Nana Anfreh Damanata on Wednesday morning Mr Sarfo explained that the Wenchi Municipality have recorded 3 cases of measles in 2023 through surveillance.
Officer in charge of Extended Programme on Immunization (EPI), at the Wenchi Municipal Health Directorate further stated that the Municipality is expected to vaccintes 21,600 children between nine months to 59 months during the five days immunization and vaccination exercise.
He reiterated that safety and effectiveness of measles and rubella vaccines and explained that the immunization would take place at health centers, schools, market centers, bus stations and at number of temporary posts within six Sub Districts under the Wenchi Municipal Health Directorate.
Mr Thomas Sarfo therefore urged Ghanaians especially parents to ensure that they take their their eligible children for the immunization to help prevent and eliminate measles and rubella.
