The joy that characterized the unanimous endorsement of Joyce Adjoa Agyeiwaa, a businesswoman, as
the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Birim Central Municipal Assembly in May 2024 has dissipated.
Many Akyem Oda residents are now outraged as Joyce Adjoa Agyeiwaa who was received with open
arms has allegedly taken sides in the Frimpong Manso-Attafuah Chieftaincy matters which has almost
stalled development in the Akyem Kotoku State for more than two decades.
Since assuming office, Joyce Adjoa Agyeiwaa has allegedly aligned herself with the disenchanted
Attafuah group and has refused to honor about four official invitations from the Akyem Kotoku Palace to
discuss developments in the Birim Central Municipality.
Her strained relationship with the Overlord of the Akyem Kotoku State Oseadeeyo Dr Frimpong Manso IV
has sparked concern among Akyem Oda residents who see her actions as inimical to the progress of the
Municipality.
Her rather strange actions have been criticized by some leading members of her own New Patriotic Party
in Oda and the general public alike.
Opanin Asare, a respected businessman and a staunch supporter of the ruling NPP in Akyem Oda, said:
“I am surprised at her actions. I shouldn’t have campaigned for her.”
Mr Duodu, a corporate executive, and a diehard sympathizer of the NPP was of the opinion that Joyce
Agyeiwaa’s behavior gravely affects social cohesion and could have potential repercussions for the
NPP’s performance in the upcoming December 2024 elections.
“Joyce Agyeiwaa has soon forgotten that her new role as Municipal Chief Executive requires collaboration
with local stakeholders, including traditional leaders, to drive development and maintain social harmony,”
one resident stated.
Social tensions are building in Akyem Oda a town which is currently enjoying relative peace after twenty
five years of chieftaincy disputes as Joyce Adjoa Agyeiwaa continues to sit on the fences of disrespect
and noncooperation.
Given the circumstances, Joyce Agyeiwaa’s actions are threatening to undo the little progress and
weaken the strength of social cohesion Akyem Oda has witnessed in the last year which came at a great
cost.
With elections looming, her actions would have damning consequences for the NPP. Will Joyce Agyeiwaa
reconsider her stance and work towards harmony, or will Akyem Oda's hard-won peace be lost at her
whims?
