Honourable William Kofi Agyemang Afari, affectionately known as Agyengo, marked his birthday on September 27, 2024, in a heartwarming and generous celebration at the New Tafo Government Hospital’s children’s ward. The former Assembly Member for the Mangoase Electoral Area in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region turned his special day into a community-driven act of kindness, focusing on improving healthcare for children.
Hon. Agyemang Afari revealed that in the lead-up to his birthday, he used his social media platforms to raise funds for the renovation of the children’s ward, which was in dire need of refurbishment. Through his efforts, a total of GH₵26,000 was raised, nearing his target of GH₵35,000. He expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the cause and hinted that this would become an annual tradition under his newly established “27th September Foundation,” which aims to address societal and institutional needs.
As part of the celebration, Hon. Agyemang Afari donated packs of drinking water and assorted drinks from Nelsban Group of Companies, as well as food packages from Bura Foods, to the children and staff at the hospital. To add a festive touch, the event concluded with the symbolic drinking of coconuts, bringing a joyful and cultural element to the celebration.
The hospital’s in-charge of the children’s ward, speaking on behalf of the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Eric Boateng, expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Agyemang Afari for his commitment to the hospital. She acknowledged the importance of community support in enhancing the hospital’s services and called on others to follow suit in contributing to the facility’s development.
In attendance were C/Insp Barnabas Mends, Prosecutor at Tafo District Police Command; Mr. Collins Ahiaduvor, Manager of Nelsban Group of Companies; Mr. Ignatius Papa Arkoh from the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly; Mr. Lawrence Agyei Larbi, CEO of Bura Foods; and other friends, family, well-wishers, and media representatives.
The celebration was a reminder of the power of giving back, as Hon. Agyemang Afari encouraged all to contribute to such worthy causes that benefit society at large. The event not only brought joy to the children and staff of the hospital but also reinforced the importance of community-driven initiatives in making lasting positive changes.
