The National Democratic Congress (NDC) party is unapologetic, and jubilant. Ghana has lost 2.4 MILLION EURO,
but the party that procured the ambulances the nation may never use for the purpose for which they were procured,
is quite happy. In all probability, none of its members would ever be held accountable for the acquisition.
In the meantime, the NDC is busy campaigning to be gifted another chance to manage the resources of the nation
In 2017, Health Minister Kweku Agyemang Manu requested an investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime
Office (EOCO) into 30 ambulances that were deemed unfit for purpose, despite being paid for by the Mahama
government. Each of the vehicles, which many experts describe as vans, cost Ghana a whopping 80,000.00 Euro
(about 86,400 dollars).
In 2017 Agyemang Manu described the ambulances, which cost an estimated €2.4 million, as “sprinter buses fitted
with kitchen panels” and expressed shock at the decision to pay for such vehicles.
Two days ago Ghana’s Court of Appeals decided to acquit and diuscharge the two persons the Attorney-General was
trying to hold to account for the transgression. Cassiel Ato Forson, Minority Leader, and a certain adventurer called
Richard Jakpa was acquitted and discharged by the court.
In response, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Minority in parliament celebrated the ‘victory’
of their Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson at the Court of Appeal in the Ambulance Trial. He is the man who
authorised the payment for the ambulances
As a sign of victory, the Minority Members of the House, who tied white bands around their necks and arms, praised
God for their Leader's victory at the Court of Appeal.
Waving white handkerchiefs in the air and praising God for the legal victory, the NDC MPs song "Daa n’ase, Daa
n'ase, Da Onyame Ase!" to wit, "“Thank You God, O Thank You God!"
Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the NDC MP for Tamale South and a former Minority Leader, informed the House that the
Minority was celebrating Dr Forson's victory in the Ambulance Trial at the Court of Appeal.
Dr Forson, who was present in the chamber, did not make any comment.
Dr Forson, a former Deputy Minister of Finance is being prosecuted by the Government for willfully causing
financial loss to the state and intentionally misapplying public property through the writing of Letters of Credit
(LCs) to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for the procurement of ambulances.
After a long legal battle, the Court of Appeal on Tuesday, July 30, acquitted and discharged Dr Forson.
