Police takes delivery of 320 housing units

Accra, July 23, GNA – The Ghana Police Service has taken delivery of 320 new housing units at the Police Training School, Tesano.

It is made up of 112 two-bedroom apartments and 208 three-bedroom apartments.

The 30-month project, which is part of the security services housing project phase three, is a community with officers’ mess, social centre, two multi-purpose sporting courts, Kindergarten, playground for children, generating power plant, a fire station and others.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, commissioning the facility, said the gesture was efforts by government to improve living standards of personnel who ensured the security and safety of the nation.

He said government recognised the accommodation challenges the personnel faced, hence the intervention, and promised more. 

“This is a reward for your loyalty and service to the nation. A token of appreciation for your services,” the President said.

Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister for Works and Housing, said the government had provided 1,000 homes to security services since 2017.

He commended the government for implementing its 2016 manifesto to commerce effort to expand housing, especially to the security agencies.

That, he said would help enrich lives, offer decent housing and give people dignity, adding that the handing over of the apartments would boost the morale of the policemen and women.

Mr Henry Quartey, the Minister for Interior, urged personnel who would be occupying the units to maintain them. 

He commended the government for retooling the Police Service over the past seven years. 

Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), said policing had improved over the years with the retooling of the Service.

The IGP pledged that the personnel would collaborate with sister security agencies in ensuring peace, security, law and order before, during, and after the upcoming General Election.
