Bono Region: 100 teachers trained on STEM Education

The Ministry of Education through Ghana Education Service with funding support from United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), is organizing a three day workshop for upper classroom teachers on STEM Education in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.
The workshop which begins from Monday July 22, will ends on Wednesday July 24,2024.
Mrs. Olivia Serwaa Opare, Director of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM)’ in an interview with media practitioners at Wenchi said the training will boost teacher confidence and job satisfaction with deeper understanding of STEM subjects and access to a variety of teaching resources.
Mrs. Olivia Serwaa Opare further explained that it will help teachers to feel more competent and inspired in their roles.
STEM teacher training offers numerous benefits that can transform classrooms and enhances student learning experience,by improving student engagement, fostering critical thinking incorporating real -world applications staying current with technological advances and boosting teacher confidence Mrs. Olivia Serwaa Opare noted
She said currently the training is ongoing in five selected districts namely, Wenchi Municipal, Offinso North District (Akomadan) New Juanen and other two districts.
In addition she said STEM certified teachers are trained to intergrate practical examples and case studies into their curriculum, making abstract concepts more relatable and understandable for students.
This contextual learning approach helps students in everyday life and various career paths, motivating them to pursue further studies and careers in the fields she emphasized.
The Director of STEM Education added that by leveraging these tools teachers can create a dynamic and modern learning environment that prepares students for the future.

Municipal Director of Education at Wenchi Municipality, Mrs. Mary Nyarko Adutwum expressed her gratitude to UNICEF, Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service for selected Wenchi among the beneficiary districts in the training workshop.
This is second training Wenchi have benefited from, the first training has boost students confidence in the STEM Education.

Some of the participants also share their experiences and said the training will help them with up to date with latest technological tools and teaching methodologies.
