As part of ongoing efforts to combat domestic violence, engage and educate the public on the importance of creating a safe and respectful environment for everyone, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has welcomed the Nkawkawe Magistrate Court’s decision in its ruling to convict the Operations Manager of Multi Credit Savings and Loans Ltd, Nkawkaw branch, over a video in which he was captured forcefully punching a female employee.
The Ministry in its quest of raising awareness about harmful effects of domestic violence called on the public to stand against all forms of violence and condemned this act of violence in no uncertain terms, commending the sitting judge who handled the case, the civil society organization for speaking up, and the Ghana Police Service for their swift action in apprehending the culprit.
According to the Ministry, the Domestic Violence Act, 2007(Act 732) which prohibits violence against women and all forms of domestic violence will undoubtedly go along way towards discouraging unscrupulous individuals from committing such acts in the future.
A statement signed by the Ministry of Gender, Hon.Darkoa Newman (MP) reminded the public to reach the Ministry’s helpline of hope  call centre on its toll-free numbers 0800-800-800 or 0800-900-900 for complaints and enquiries while issues of sexual and gender-based violence can be reported to the Domestic Violence call centre via the toll-free number on 0800-111-222.
