BORTEYMAN SPORTS COMPLEX COMMISSIONED FOR USE

The President of the Republic, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the multipurpose Borteyman Sports complex to herald the climax of preparations for the hosting of the first ever African Games on Ghanaian soil and also to mark exactly 25 day countdown to the start of the Games.
The newly constructed complex is strategically positioned to become the sports hub for various sporting activities, providing state-of-the-art facilities for athletes and sports enthusiasts.
In his speech, the President reiterated the Government’s commitment to host a memorable and successful Games despite loud calls by some pessimists for the nation to withdraw from hosting the tournament.
He noted that “we remained resolute, and, today, our country can be proud of the massive sporting infrastructure we have put in place for the Games, which will be a huge legacy for the country”.
He further stressed that, the nation is expecting some five thousand (5,000) elite athletes, three thousand (3,000) experienced officials and thousands of fans in the country, together with an estimated global audience of 2.2 billion people watching through traditional and social media.
In his welcome address, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif underscored the immense significance that the organization and hosting of the 13th African Games will have on the national development of Ghana.
He indicated that the construction of state-of-the-art sports facilities in the country, not only provides a platform for athletic excellence, but also contributes to the overall infrastructure development, leaving a legacy for generations to come.
He noted that ‘’the interactions that will occur during the Games and the pride associated with it, will contribute immensely to the enhancement of the image of Africa, build cohesion among African states and ensure the general well-being of individuals across the continent’’.
The facilities include a playing field, modern gymnasiums, tennis courts , a 10-lane competition swimming pool and an eight-lane warm-up swimming pool.
Additionally, a multipurpose Sports Hall, capable of accommodating 1,000 spectators, is equipped to host various events such as basketball, badminton, netball, table tennis, and weightlifting.
