Accra, Feb 04, GNA – The Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has accepted the ruling of the Winneba High Court, ordering the reinstatement of Professor Mawutor Avoke as Vice Chancellor of the University.

The decision of the Council, was disclosed by Mr Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament/Member of Parliament for Efutu, on the floor of the House in his response to an appeal to him by Mr Haruna Iddrisu, the Minority Leader, to ensure that the High Court’s ruling was executed.

Mr Iddrisu said: “I hope that you are following keenly development in your Constituency, especially the High Court ruling on Professor Avoke and co, and that you will do what is legally appropriate; that justice is done and that people are not targeted unjustifiably and treated in a manner which is unfair to them.”

Mr Afenyo-Markin in his response, said: “I want to inform you that last week, the Council of the University met and took a decision and announced publicly that it was yielding in obedience to the orders of the High Court. For your information.”

Background:

The Winneba High Court, presided over by Mr Justice Aboagye Tandoh, on Wednesday, January 26, ordered that Prof Avoke be reinstated as the Vice-Chancellor of the UEW.

The Court also ruled that all others who lost their positions in the University or were affected by the legal tussle, be reinstated, and their salary arrears paid with retrospective effect from the day they were “unlawfully” removed.
