An Official of the Ghana’s Electoral Commission has called for the politicization of the Assembly elections in Ghana.
Speaking with the Daily Searchlight on a condition of anonymity, he pointed out that as a country, we cannot delude ourselves into thinking that the Assembly elections are apolitical when in fact it is the direct opposite.
According to him, the country cannot continue on the path of delusion and deceit whiles the fact still remains that political parties surreptitiously support contestants for the elections.
“If you go round you will see contestants using party colours and candidates on their posters, so why do we shy away from the reality?” he queried.
The official posited that it is about time we all came out to politicise to generate the enthusiasm that is associated with the general elections.
“Let us hold the bull by the horn and dare the consequences therefrom rather than playing the ostrich. We cannot always pretend when the reality has dawned on us to face the bullet. Don’t let’s pretend. For if we face that fact interest in the process will be doubled and parties will openly support candidates. This will allow let it to become very competitive and exciting,” he said.
