The Department of Gender in partnership with Rosemond Girl Child Foundation and Self Help International under the auspices of the Tafo Municipal Education Directorate have commemorated this year’s International Day of the Girl Child under the worldwide theme; Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our leadership,our well-being.
The event was held at the assembly hall of the Osei kyeretwie Secondary School (OKESS) in the Ashanti Region.
Dignitaries present at the event were; The Municipal Director of Tafo Municipal Education Office, The Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Gender, The Ashanti Regional Girl Child Coordinator, The Tafo Municipal Girl Child Coordinator, The Executive Director of Rosemond Girl Child Foundation and high- profiled personalities from Self-help International as well as OKESS.
The Girls were educated on their rights and also made to understand that these rights come with responsibilities.
The Director for the Department of Gender, Ashanti touched on the well-being of our young girls and said there are a lot of elements that come together to promote and ensure the well-being of our girls. She also educated the girls on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and the need for them to report any case involving such incidents because when the girls are sexually abused it hinders their well-being.
She seized the opportunity to introduce the audience to the Orange Support Centre and asked them to call 0800111222 in case of any forms of abuse.
