The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has announced that his organization is actively addressing the challenges facing the operations of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Upper West Region.
Dr. Okoe Boye made this statement when he called on the District Chief Executive of Nandom, Hon. Raymond Nero as part of his tour of the region.
Dr Okoe Boye stated that the Scheme is working towards processing claims and making payments swifter in order to clear arrears that existed. This initiative aims to address the issue of delayed payments and ensure that healthcare providers receive their due promptly.
To promote fairness and accountability, Dr. Boye highlighted that the NHIA has introduced a policy that ensures claims are paid to hospitals based on merit.
This move aims to encourage healthcare facilities to provide quality services and submit clean claims for processing.
Dr. Okoe Boye called for the need for a change in attitude among some healthcare providers to desist from illegally charging members of the Scheme while emphasizing the NHIA’s determination to ensure that claims are processed and paid on time.
Without the NHIS, many individuals would face significant challenges in accessing healthcare services.
Hon. Raymond Nero, the District Chief Executive for Nandom Municipal commended the few NHIS staff running that office for their exceptional performance but appealed to Dr. Okoe Boye for additional staffing support and the construction of a new office space to complement their efforts.
Acknowledging the concerns raised, Dr. Okoe Boye assured the DCE that the NHIA would work towards addressing the staffing and office accommodation challenges faced by the Nandom NHIS office.
He also urged healthcare providers to deliver efficient services, promising to ensure the prompt payment of claims for effective healthcare provision.
Furthermore, Dr. Okoe Boye received an invitation from the DCE to attend the celebration of the Kakube festival in November to demonstrate the harmonious relationship between the NHIA and the community.
The NHIA’s efforts in addressing issues and strengthening NHIS operations in the Upper West Region are critical steps towards providing the residents with accessible and quality healthcare.
