CHRAG CHALKS 30 YEARS

The Commission for Human Rights has celebrated 30 years of it formation and existence in Accra.
The celebration signifies the birth of the constitutional body that deals with injustices, corruption and human right infractions in the country.
To help commemorate the day, other sister bodies solidarised and collaborated in the grand occasion with encouraging remarks and speeches.
Organisations like EOCO, NCCE, CDD, Chamber of Mines, GII, Amnesty International, Public Services Commission, NMC, GACC, etc joined to celebrate the day.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner of CHRAG thanked all the invitees to the celebration of the three decades of dedicated service by his outfit.
The event he claimed sought to bring together stakeholders to provide a platform to reflect on past achievements and plans for future endeavours. It also sought to address current and future challenges in order to guide the commission for better planning for the future.
The theme for the 30th anniversary is carefully selected to epitomize the organization’s commitment to  “Uphold Human Rights, Ensuring Efficient and Effective Delivery, and Promotion of Good Governance”.
He outlined the successes the commission has chalked over the years in terms of settling disputes across the country; Advocacy against corruption, and ensuring good governance.
Mr Joseph Whittal told the celebrants that CHRAG has 175 offices in all the 16 regions of the country and employs over 1000 staff.
He said that CHRAG has carved a very good image for itself in West Africa, Africa and the world as an adjudicator and champion of human rights issues.
The commission also was lauded for the quick and expeditious settlement of issues brought before it. He enumerated a number of cases duly settled at his outfit with dispatch.
He stated that in spite of all the achievements, the commission is bedeviled with some challenges. He disclosed that his outfit lacks adequate resources and logistics to carry out its duties successfully.
He also bemoaned perceived political interference in some cases.  The commissioner unveiled the anniversary logo for the celebration.
The logo symbolises the essence and importance of CHRAG  @ 30. There  will also be an anniversary ambassador who will play a pivotal role in the organizational achievement and promote its human rights records
This is a weeklong event with a wide range of programs.
