Story by Emmanuel Adu GYAMFI
The Paramount Chief of Goaso Traditional Council (GTC), Nana Kwasi Bosomprah I, has urged African leaders
not to solely rely on rainfall for crop and other plant farming.
According to him, the change in climate has caused an uncertain pattern of rainfall in the world, especially Africa,

which was a threat to food security and plant production.
The chief, therefore, implored African leaders to establish proper and reliable irrigation systems in every farming
community in order to ensure an all-year-round crop production for local consumption and export.
Nana Bosomprah I stated these on Friday at the Ahafo Regional edition of this year's annual Green Ghana Project
(GGP) which was held on the campus of Ahafoman Senior High Technical School (ASTS), at Goaso.

The Ahafo region planted a total of 900,000 different species of plants seedlings including mango, coconut,
emere and mahogany within schools, churches, communities, street avenues, boundaries, homes and
plantations.
Mr George Yaw Boakye, the Ahafo Regional Minister, in his remarks, said the tree planting exercise was non –
political and that he canvassed the support of all and sundry to get involved.
He entreated the regional forestry commission office to ensure that the tree planting exercise was done
everyday in the enclave especially in the lost forests area saying "Ahafo will regain its status as the forest zone
of Ghana".
The Regional Minister charged the management and staff of ASTS, the Forestry Commission and other
stakeholder institutions to ensure an effective maintenance of the planted trees in order to get value for money.
Nana Poku Bosompim, the Ahafo Regional Manager of the Forestry Commission, noted that the Ministry of
Lands and Natural Resources (MLNR) and his outfit were committed to greening the country for present and
future benefits.
He assured that the planted trees in the Ahafo region would be maintained by regular watering, weeding and
shaping, and protecting (fencing) the area from stray animals among other unique activities.
The Regional Manager indicated that the theme for 2023 GGP, our forests, our health emphasised the
numerous benefits of planting trees in our communities, forests and other key areas for the health and socio –
economic needs of residents.
“The Forestry Commission of Ghana is committed to safeguarding the forest cover of the country from the
activities of sand winners, illegal miners, loggers, poachers, and charcoal burners. Let us all play our parts to
make this mission happen" he stressed.
Nana Bosompim expressed gratitude to the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC), traditional
authorities, Journalists, religious leaders, and public and private institutions among other key partner organizations
for actively supporting the GGD.
