Though certain clubs have suffered more than others, all MLS teams have until the end of the Primary Transfer Window on April 24 to make necessary adjustments and additions. Austin FC may be looking for a full-back, with Zan Kolmanic out for the season. While Atlanta United may consider a backup goalkeeper with the absence of Brad Guzan.

Here’s the injury report ahead of Matchday 8…

Brad Guzan

Atlanta United goalkeeper Brad Guzan will be sidelined for 10-12 weeks after suffering a torn MCL in his left knee. He picked up the injury during Atlanta’s 1-1 draw against New York City FC on April 8.

The torn MCL stands as Guzan’s second major injury in the last two seasons, after rupturing his Achilles tendon in 2022 to sit out the majority of the Major League Soccer campaign. Head coach Gonzalo Pineda is expected to depend on goalkeepers Clement Diop and Quentin Westberg, who joined Atlanta United during the offseason but hold extensive experience in MLS.

Atlanta United currently sit in third place of the Eastern Conference table, with 14 points in seven games and a record of 4W-2D-1L.

Austin FC’s Zan Kolmanic is out for the season.

The defender will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee, after suffering the injury during a training session with the Western Conference team.

The injury stands as a huge blow for Austin, as Kolmanic has played an integral part of Josh Wolff’s starting 11. He kicked off all six of the Verde & Black’s league games in 2023, and has recorded six assists in 57 regular-season appearances (41 starts) since joining Austin as a U22 Initiative signing ahead of their debut 2021 campaign.

Mason Toye

CF Montreal’s Mason Toye will be sidelined for the next six to eight weeks after undergoing successful knee surgery to repair a torn left meniscus. The club revealed Toye is expected back in mid-June, according to the prescribed timeline.

Toye joins the long list of injured players at Montreal, standing alongside attacking midfielder Matko Miljevic (knee), midfielder Samuel Piette (adductor), center back George Campbell (ankle) and goalkeeper James Pantemis (shoulder).

The limited roster has heavily affected the team’s 2023 MLS campaign. Despite best efforts from new head coach Hernan Losada, the team currently sits in last place of the Eastern Conference table with just three points in six games. The Canadian side’s first and only victory of the season came on March 18, in a 3-2 battle against the Philadelphia Union.

Montreal have lost all their other matches.
