Two police officers who arrested some galamsey boys took money from them and tried to extort more money, were captured by the illegal miners and subjected to great humiliation.
In a video trending online, one of them is even forced to kneel and beg for forgiveness, whilst the second one pleads for mercy.
The video, which made Whats App platforms over the weekend, saw the young men arguing with the police officers at an undisclosed location in the bush somewhere in Ghana.
The language spoken is Twi and pidgin.
According to the most voluble of the young men, he had been arrested by the policemen, and had money extorted from him, whereupon he was asked to take the officers to the ‘location’.
Upon arriving at the location, however, they tried to extort more money, which led to the confrontation, with their car keys to a Land Cruiser Pickup and handcuffs being seized.
One trapped police officer is seen pleading with the men whether he was not known to them.
It also became apparent in the video that the ‘detained’ police officers knew the illegal miners and had been doing business with them for some time, often visiting them to make money.
The latest video would suggest that the government’s efforts to stop illegal mining have a long way to go, with some of the very men charged with policing illegal mining, engaging in illegal activities about the same.
