The ‘Time for Dombo’ is a Zongo community group that was formed based on the sacrifice and toil of S.D. Dombo for the UP tradition with the primary objective of creating awareness on behalf of the Dombo tradition as a formidable and integral part of the great New Patriotic Party.
Speaking at a news conference held in Accra, the secretary of the group, Emmanuel Darko, discounted rumors spearheaded by former President H.E. John Dramani that the NPP often uses and dumps northerners.
Darko stated that it is not true that the NPP does not give the necessary dignity and respect to the Dombo tradition. He stated that tradition is a formidable part of the party and for that matter, people from the northern part of Ghana who belong to the NPP can aspire to the highest levels of the party.
He stated that such suggestions from Mahama, particularly that northerners would never be allowed to lead the party into any general election in this country. He stated that this is a deliberate attempt to create disaffection between northerners and the NPP.
“I want to urge all delegates to first of all ignore the statement made by the former president and rather endorse and vote massively for H.E. Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia as the next flagbearer of NPP, not because he is a Muslim or a northerner but rather based on his competence, abilities, and capabilities,” he advised.
He stated that the NPP has given people from every religious and ethnic background the respect and equal opportunity to serve in any office including the highest office in this country which the NDC prides itself to be a social democratic political party that has never had the goodwill or dream to replicate.
He observed that there is some growing attack on the candidature of H.E. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer hopeful for the NPP. He stated that they understand that the ripe fruit attracts stones but he expressed a strong word of caution to all those involved and engaged in such acts to come to the table of argument with an intellectual discussion of facts and provision of evidence and not just attack the hard-earned reputation of the Veep and soon to be president of Ghana only because they feel like attacking.
The group “Time For Dombo” and the good people of Ayawaso East Constituency, the home of DMB, not forgetting the vibrant and enthusiastic Nima community (The Capital Of All Zongo Communities) took the opportunity to officially announce their loyal support for H.E. Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, and also pledge their support in any form and promised to work hard to make his ambition a reality come 2024.
