The tournament hosts are already qualified, giving manager Hansi Flick plenty of time to work with a younger squad and figure out how to avoid a third consecutive capitulation on the international stage when 2024 arrives.

Here’s how the boss could set up.

GK: Marc-Andre ter Stegen – With Manuel Neuer still injured, Ter Stegen will get another chance to prove he should be the starter.

RB: Marius Wolf – Dortmund defender Wolf looks set for his maiden appearance for Die Mannschaft.

CB: Matthias Ginter – Flick has opted against calling up Antonio Rudiger or Niklas Sule, giving Ginter the chance to establish himself as a veteran in this squad.

CB: Nico Schlotterbeck – Schlotterbeck has a bright future in this squad and will now begin his promotion to permanent starter.

LB: David Raum – Raum is the best Germany have to offer at left-back and could easily keep that title for the next five years.

DM: Joshua Kimmich – The most experienced member of the squad is now 28-year-old Kimmich, who boasts 74 caps for the national team.

DM: Leon Goretzka – Kimmich’s partner in crime, Goretzka will likely share the minutes with Emre Can here.

RM: Serge Gnabry – Expect Gnabry to start the match but Flick will be keen to take a look at Brentford’s Kevin Schade at some point.

AM: Kai Havertz – Jamal Musiala is out injured and so Havertz may get the start here, ahead of youngsters Florian Wirtz and Feix Nmecha.

LM: Timo Werner – With no natural left wingers in the entire squad, it’s likely that Werner will be pushed out wide.

ST: Niclas Fullkrug – A quiet star of the World Cup, Fullkrug deserves the chance to keep his place.
