Les Bleus will have the chance to retain their title against Argentina on Sunday after eliminating underdogs Morocco on Wednesday night.

Should France win the World Cup again, they’ll become only the third men’s side in history to successfully defend their crown and the first since Pele’s Brazil back in 1962.

Speaking to TF1 after their semi-final victory, Deschamps – who also captained France to their first World Cup title in 1998 – only briefly touched on his current feelings before insisting he needs to switch gears and think ahead to Sunday’s showdown.

“There’s emotion, there’s pride,” Deschamps said.

“Once again, it was an important step. There’s still another one to go. We’ve been with the players for a month, it’s never easy, but it’s been a pleasure up to now.”

Though France had to withstand some relatively heavy pressure from Morocco on Wednesday, they rarely allowed the Atlas Lions clear routes to goal and they defended resolutely.

Theo Hernandez opened the scoring after just five minutes, with substitute Randal Kolo Muani’s nerve-settler coming late on at the Al Bayt Stadium.
