LaCava was selected by St. Louis from the New York Red Bulls before Miami paid $150k in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM) to Major League Soccer’s newest club. The Herons will pay St. Louis another $150k GAM if LaCava hits certain performance metrics.

“We’re excited to add a promising young player like Jake to our group and feel he’ll be a good fit for what we are building here,” Inter Miami chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson said in a club press release. “He had a very strong season in the USL Championship and we believe in his talent. We look forward to seeing him develop with us.”

In three years with RBNY, LaCava never managed a senior appearance. However, he did play 46 times for New York Red Bulls II, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists. La Cava had previously spent time in the Barcelona Academy in Arizona and with the LA Galaxy youth setup.

Last season, the 21-year-old played 39 times on loan at USL outfit the Tampa Bay Rowdies, scoring 13 goals and setting up another six.

The Red Bulls will receive the standard $50k GAM payment due to all clubs who lose players in the Expansion Draft.
