Mr. Francis Manu Adabor, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Lands and Forestry has stated that the world has changed in all spheres of life from the manual way of doing things to digital and therefore advised Licensed Surveyors to embrace new means of data capture.
According to him, the concepts and techniques in the practice of land surveying over the years have not changed but rather it is the tools that have changed.
“We have moved from conventional methods of data gathering to advanced way of data capture,” he stated.
Mr. Francis Manu Adabor who is also the member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South East constituency gave the advice on Wednesday, at this year’s Annual Seminar and General Meeting of the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana (LiSAG) on the theme “The Changing Phase of Cadastral Surveying for Effective Land Management”.
The lawmaker of Ahafo Ano South East constituency found this year’s Seminar and AGM most appropriate.
“The changing phase of cadastral surveying means the era of compass surveying, for example, has been phased out and instant positioning is the order of the day. As progressive professionals we must all brace ourselves for the task we have at hand in land administration and management,” he stated.
This, to him, the land surveyor is very important in land administration and management and they must use the right tools and techniques in cadastral surveying.
“The plans we produce must be accurate and timely as well. The client cannot wait for us anymore and we have to be proactive,” he cautioned.
The president of LiSAG LS. Stephen Labi Darko charged that the licensed surveyors must adapt to the changing times to remain relevant and have a better know-how than these fraudsters. He stated that Ghana has embraced digitalization and same must be for LISAG.
He indicated that embracing and mastering digitalization will be a significant differentiator and ensure their profession remains viable and attracts the next generation. He urged them to be receptive to the new ideas that would emanate from the technical sessions in order to embrace the changing phase of cadastral surveying for efficient Land Administration in Ghana.
The President stated that there would be an introduction of LiSAG working week in March, 2023. This would be an annual event to bring together stakeholders and also outdoor the programs and projects of the association for national development. This would also increase the presence and relevance of LiSAG in the land Value Chain.
“Looking into 2023, we shall begin the construction of the new offices for LiSAG. My
leadership shall also deepen the collaboration with Institutions and Stakeholders with the
possibility of signing of letters of understanding or memorandum of understanding,” he said.
He continued that members would be trained on the new Lands Commission platform for submission and approval of plans. Exco shall also meet Regional Surveyors on the policy implementation to chart a mutual plan for adoption. He thanked the members for the opportunity given to him as the Chief Servant to drive the affairs of the Association.
The LISAG president noted as land remains the most sought-after property, the role of the surveyor has become more important to help eliminate the numerous indeterminate land boundaries which are seriously undermining the developments of public and private landed properties.
For his part, the chairman of the planning committee LS. Stephen Azu added that the land plays a very pivotal role in the socio-economic development of every nation and licensed surveyors play a critical role in ensuring land management is at an epoch High.
“Our collective involvement and changing the times to suit our digital economy is a necessary dimension to improve the land value chain of this country at large,” he noted.
He added, “It is my singular hope that the story of cadastral surveying in Ghana will be told differently as we traverse into the theme amidst improved processes, procedures and methodology to cause a change professionally to our clientele as enables to perform our duties with sincerity and dedication.”
The 4th Seminar and Annual General Meeting of the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana LiSAG brought together some accomplished land surveyors in the country including the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Lands and Forestry, Mr. Francis Manu Adabor, Dr. Ing. Nana Ato Arthur, Guest Speaker, Surv. Winston Abayomi Ayeni, Surv.
The rest are, Jones Ofori Boadu, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie a Supreme Court Judge representing the Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Anin Yeboah, the former president of LiSAG Kwame Tenadu Snr.
The Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana (LISAG) aims to make a positive impact on surveying and mapping in Ghana. The Association would further develop strategies to ensure that members of the association deliver value to all stakeholders and esteemed customers in the country.
