The Republic of Ireland end their 2022/23 Nations League campaign on Tuesday night looking to avoid relegation against Armenia.

The Boys in Green can’t catch either Scotland or Ukraine, having only picked up four points from their first five games. They risk relegation into League C, where the likes of Estonia, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg will reside in the 2024/25 edition of the tournament.

Armenia are bottom of the group with three points, though those three came after victory over Ireland at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium back in June.

Current Form (Last Five Games)

Republic of Ireland team news

Matt Doherty made his first start of the season at either club and international level in the 2-1 defeat to Scotland and should retain his spot.

Josh Cullen is suspended, so Alan Browne or Jef Hendrick could come into the starting XI.

Republic of Ireland Starting 11 (3-5-2): Bazunu; Collins, Egan, O’Shea; Doherty, Browne, Molumby, Knight, McClean; Parrott, Obafemi.
Bench: Travers, Duffy, Coleman, O’Dowda, O’Leary, Ogbene, Robinson, Brady, Hogan, Hourihane.

Armenia team news

Arman Hovhannisyan and Kamo Hovhannisyan are available again for Armenia having served suspensions. Hovhannisyan could come in for Zhirayr Margaryan at left back.

Armenia Starting 11 (4-4-2): Yurchenko; Hambardzumyan, Mkoyan, Calisir, Hovhannisyan; Barseghyan, Dashyan, Grigoryan, Bayramyan; Bichakhchyan, Zelarayan.
Bench: Buchnev, Serobyan, Shaghoyan, Harutyunyan, Monroy, Muradyan, Beglaryan, Hakobyan, Mkrtchyan, Galstyan.

Ireland were roared on by their supporters as they surprisingly put three goals past Scotland in their last home game, but defeat to the same opposition last week kept relegation open as a possibility.

Strike duo Troy Parrott and Michael Obafemi need to fire up front, otherwise Stephen Kenny’s side could be in for a long night.

Prediction: Republic of Ireland 0-1 Armenia
