A lack of attacking venom hindered the Wanderers last term, with their top scorer being Raul Jimenez with just six, but there is renewed hope after a busy summer that they can climb up the table.

Nathan Collins and Goncalo Guedes have both arrived, while Hwang Hee-chan’s loan from RB Leipzig has been turned into a permanent deal.

Conor Coady has departed for Everton on loan, while Fabio Silva and Ki-Jana Hoever have made similar temporary moves.

Here are Wolves’ squad numbers for the new season.

– Jose Sa (GK)
– Rayan Ait-Nouri
4 – Nathan Collins
– Bruno Jordao
7 – Pedro Neto
8 – Ruben Neves
9 – Raul Jimenez
10 – Daniel Podence
11 – Hwang Hee-chan
13 – Matija Sarkic (GK)
14 – Yerson Mosquera
15 – Willy Boly
17 – Goncalo Guedes
18 – Morgan Gibbs-White
19 – Jonny
20 – Chiquinho
22 – Nelson Semedo
23 – Max Kilman
24 – Toti Gomes
25 – Connor Ronan
28 – Joao Moutinho
32  Leander Dendoncker
37 – Adama Traore
39 – Luke Cundle

Potential outgoing transfers could free up a few numbers before the summer transfer window shuts, but there are still a few major jerseys up for grabs at Wolves.

As long as it is unique within their squad, Premier League players can wear any number between one and 99, although tradition dictates that you will usually see first-teamers donning one to about 30 – barring a few exceptions.

Man City youngster Cole Palmer holds the record for the highest number in Premier League history, turning out in the number 80.

Also following tradition, goalkeepers will generally occupy numbers one and 13.

Premier League players cannot wear the number zero – and that’s fair enough because it would be a bit silly.

Premier League players are only allowed to change their squad number during pre-season or if one is sold or loaned to another club in the January transfer window.

Clubs must submit their confirmed squad list – including shirt numbers – by a specified deadline each year, and numbers cannot be changed thereafter. In 2021 that deadline was 1 September.
