Konongo-Odumase (Ash), July 22, GNA – Muslim students in Senior High Schools have been admonished to exhibit good character, honesty and empathy at all times, to reflect the beauty of Islam.
They should stay away from negative social vices, live according to the tenets of Islam, and serve as good ambassadors of the religion.
Mr. Hassan Ibrahim, a Leading Member of Answaar Muslim Movement, a group of Muslim youth promoting the development of young Muslims, gave the advice at a seminar for members of the Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA) at the Konongo-Odumase Senior High School.
The event which was put together by Ashanti regional branch of GMSA in collaboration with the Answaar Movement, also saw the handing over of leadership of GMSA Zone seven, to newly elected executives.
Participants were drawn from the various Senior High Schools in the three Asante-Akim Districts.
Mr Ibrahim, who was delivering a speech on Islam and western education, underlined the need for the Muslim students to combine Islamic teachings and circular education to be relevant in a global environment where knowledge had become expedient.
He said the combination of the two would ensure their holistic development by becoming good Muslims while contributing meaningfully to socio-economic development of their communities and the country at large.
To achieve this, they must not follow the crowd but rather show the way for others to follow by demonstrating high sense of discipline and morality on campus while taking their academic work serious, he noted.
He reminded them that they were the next generation of Islamic scholars and must not allow peer pressure to derail their ambitions as future leaders.
He told them their lifestyles would either project Islam as a religion of peace or portray it otherwise, and urged them to shun bad company that may have negative influence on them.
“You have come to school to learn and that must be your focus.
Do not substitute that objective for anything else,” he implored the students.
Mr Ibrahim advised them not to allow all the resources invested in their education by both parents and the government be in vain as students, adding that they may never have another opportunity.
