Sunyani, July 03, GNA – Mr. Seidu Iddrisu Yeboah, the Bono Regional Director for the Centre for National Culture (CNC) has implored parents and teachers to inculcate environmental health and protection spirit into children.
He said communal spirit like environmental cleaning and safety as well as proper solid and liquid waste management at homes minimized the government’s expenditure on national waste management.
Mr. Yeboah who made the appeal at the maiden ‘Meko-Bono’ Home Coming and Festival in Sunyani, said, discipline of ensuring environmental cleanliness was among the cultural and traditional practices of the Ghanaian society.
The event, on the theme, ”Unifying Our People for Development through Tourism and Culture” was organised by the ‘Bonofie’, a Ghanaian event organisation promoting the socio-cultural and economic development of the Bono and Bono East Regions with support from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Sunyani Traditional Council, Bono Regional Coordinating Council, Centre for National Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
Mr Yeboah appealed to Assembly Members and the leadership of religious organisations, civil society and non-governmental organisations to assist in propagating the message of re-awakening the spirit of environmental cleanliness among the populace.
He noted the nation’s ability to control indiscriminate waste disposal would not only prevent flooding and communicable diseases caused by deliberate human activities but save public fund for other developmental projects.
Mr Joseph Appiagyei, the Bono Regional Director of the National Tourism Authority lauded the Festival, saying, it sought to promote domestic tourism in the region and the country in general.
