Mr Daniel Botwe, Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development (MLGDRD), has called for the nurturing of trees so they grow well.

“The Green Ghana Project should be sustained throughout the year because the trees planted must be nurtured to grow and new ones planted,” he said.

The Minister made the call at a ceremony to mark the Green Ghana Day Project at Aburi Botanical Gardens in the Eastern Region.

In all, 500 new tree species were planted in the Gardens.

The second edition of the Green Ghana Project was launched on March 1, 2022 under the theme: “Mobilising for a Greener Future.”

The target is to plant 20 million trees across the country this year.

The Daily Searchlight is of the firm belief that the statement by Mr. Dan Kweku Botwe is probably the most important statement made throughout the launching of the Green Ghana Day.

The fact of the matter, is that whilst it is relatively easy to plant trees or anything for that matter, the really hard part is protecting and nurturing the tree, idea or initiative to its maturity and fruition.

Indeed, it is clear that the idea of ‘nurturing’ has been one of Ghana’s biggest developmental banes since independence. We seem to have a penchant for coming up with truly innovative ideas, which tend to fizzle out over time.

That being so, we at the Daily Searchlight hope that the dynamism demonstrated by the youthful Lands Minister would be compensated by a ‘nurturing spirit’ in all Ghanaians, so that we would come to look upon the trees being planted as our children that we have a duty to see grow into adulthood.
