Indian Super League (ISL) side, Kerala Blasters FC on Tuesday announced that star striker, Alvaro Vazquez has departed the club after spending one season with them.
Vazquez joined Kerala Blasters from Sporting Gijon on a one-year deal and quickly established himself as key player for The Tuskers, becoming the team’s joint top goalscorer with eight goals while also providing two assists last season.
The Spaniard played a major role in Kerala Blasters reaching the final of the 2021-22 season, only for Ivan Vukomanovic’s side to lose out on the title to Hyderabad FC on penalties.
The 31-year-old started his career as part of RCD Espanyol’s youth system and in 2010 made his LaLiga debut for them. He soon joined Getafe in 2012, and it was at this time that he was loaned to Premier League outfit, Swansea City.
He returned to Espanyol in 2016 where he was again loaned to Gimnastic de Tarragona and Real Zaragoza of Segunda Division. In 2019, he signed a three-year deal with Sporting de Gijon and in total he played 12 matches in the Premier League and over 150 games in La Liga.
Despite Vazquez’s departure, Kerala Blasters have enough firepower in their ranks considering that they still have the likes of Jorge Perreyra Diaz, Adrian Luna, Sahal Abdul Samad and Rahul KP to take up the mantle come next season.
