Accra, May 28, GNA – Soldiers who undergo pre-deployment training and concentration at the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS) in Bundase will be issued with United Nations (UN) certification.
Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), announced this during his operational visit to the school, disclosing that plans were far advanced to get APOTS affiliated to the UN education system to enable them to be awarded UN accredited certification for its training modules.
This, according to the COAS, was intended to enhance the professional output of personnel while furthering their career development thus making them internationally competitive even after their military service.
Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah also told the personnel to be committed to their training, adding that the current security situation in the Sub-region required that they maintained their professional posture, stayed alert and always vigilant.
“Training is important to enable us meet the security threat and deal with it while staying alive to deliver the mandate.” He explained.
He reminded the troops of his vision and called on them to abide by the strategy he had adopted to achieve his vision.
The COAS called on personnel to unite and deliver their legitimate mandate of protecting the country and its citizens from all forms of threats or attacks.
He said though personnel came from various backgrounds, it was imperative for them to have a unity of purpose, avoid any divisive tendencies that might impede duties and uphold their pledge to the constitution.
He indicated that it was through teamwork that the Army had seen major development across the various garrisons nationwide. “Together, we fight to protect our country and its citizens” he reiterated.
The COAS assured that the Military High Command was committed to addressing the challenges that troops encountered with accommodation and other logistics and asked them to maintain their hard work, discipline, and professionalism to attract better conditions.
Maj Gen Oppong-Preprah, as part of his visit, commissioned a mechanized borehole facility and a renovated kitchen for the school.
