The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has directed all students to leave the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus by midday, September 18, with the exception of foreign students and those permitted by the Management of the University to stay.

This follows intelligence reports on the intention of some students of two rival Halls of Residence to engage in riots on the campus on the eve of Friday, September 17, as students go on vacation.

Per the investigations by the security services, tension had been mounting between the University Hall (Katanga) and Unity Hall (Continental), in recent times.

The Daily Searchlight continues to be amused and flabbergasted by the supposed animosity between the two halls, which often, in the past, has led to violence, injuries, damage to property and all kinds of mayhem.

We, cannot find, after much inquiry, what can be the reason for this strange animosity between two groups of students whose primary motive for being in school, is to acquire an education.

We agree with the decision taken by the Ashanti Regional Security Council. Additionally, we believe that the Security Council should swarm the campus with cameras and security men, and warned the students directly that anybody caught on camera engaging in dangerous conduct would be pursued, hunted down and prosecuted.

We also call on parents and guardians with wards at the university to call them and ensue that these wards behave like human beings.

This nation has tolerated this nonsense from these students for far too long, and there is a necessity to face this demon once and for all, and bring it to heel.
