22 independent presidential candidates pick nominationsforms

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Training at the Electoral Commission (EC), has revealed that 22 individuals have picked nomination forms to run as independent presidential candidates in the upcoming 2024 election.

In an interview with Oyerepa TV campaign trail, Kwesi Parker Wilson, Dr. Quaicoe emphasized that democracy is costly, but it ensures that all qualified individuals have the opportunity to participate.

To be eligible, candidates must meet the constitutional requirements, including being at least 40 years old, a taxpayer, and a Ghanaian citizen without a criminal record or foreign allegiance.

Dr. Quaicoe also clarified that the GH₵0.50 fee for checking voter registration details online is paid to service providers, not the EC. He encouraged the public to take the ongoing voters register exhibition seriously and participate to ensure their names are on the register.

He expressed concern over the low participation rate, attributing it to some Ghanaians opting to use the online platform to register instead of visiting the exhibition centers.

He urged the general public to take the exercise seriously and participate to ensure their names are on the register, warning that failure to do so may result in being unable to vote in the upcoming election.

“It’s crucial that citizens take advantage of this opportunity to verify their details and ensure they are registered,” he said.
